Your description is quite a bit short. Will you explain a little bit more what you have done e.g. testing the oscillator frequency and so on.

Check the wires on the erase head. Most Revox and Studer machines have one pair reversed. It's supposed to be that way.
If you replaced the head and soldered the wires back with plus on the same side, that's likely your problem.

no the tapes were not that bad but had previously been recorded on 1/4 track machine i did not know that a 1/2 track machine could not erase tapes properly that had been recorded on 1/4 track

Hi stugazz,
that can't be. The voltage from a 1/2 track machine must be able to erase any tape!
There must be something wrong!

Thank You Alfred, but then i just can't understand it,i spoke to a studer tech. in the USA and he advised me that either the tapes were really old or maybe they had been recorded on a 1/4 track format and if so the b-67 would not erase them properly so i put aside the tapes which were recorded on 1/4 track and tryed the ones only recorded on 1/2 track the tapes are identical in every way except that some were recorded on 1/4 track and some on 1/2 track the ones on 1/2 track the unit erases perfectly the ones on 1/4 track it erases them maybe 75% and when i record over them i can hear what was previously recorded underneath ?????
